Member of the Month – May 2018 The Cutts Family is this month’s members of the month!  This is one family who really knows Crossfit!  Adam, Erin, and Eli are active members, while Gavin, Teagen, and Ming attend every class and wait patiently for mom, dad, and Eli to finish their workouts. What led you to try out Crossfit? Eli – I wanted to try it out to see how it went.  Also, my parents were really wanting me to try it. Erin and Adam – It had been a rough few years for the family.  Lots of changes had taken place in our lives in the previous years that kept us us from being active, 10 years to be exact.  After a fun night at home with the family (and maybe a few glasses of wine) an email was sent to a gym to inquire about membership.  I had...

Dynamic vs. Static At UpReach Crossfit, we highly encourage our athletes to properly warm-up before workouts and stretch afterward to reduce recovery time and prevent injury. We typically talk about two types of stretching, dynamic, and static. Below is a brief breakdown of each. Dynamic: Dynamic stretching usually consists of movements directed to target the muscle groups you are preparing to use in the strength and/or WoD portions of the workout. The act of dynamic stretching increases blood flow to the muscle – that’s why it’s often called a warm-up. If weights are used in dynamic stretching, the weight should be low and, again, used to prep the muscle for the workout ahead. A good reference for a dynamic warm-up can be found in the Men’s Journal. Static: Static stretching focuses on lengthening the muscle. In this type of stretching, we hold a stretch at a point where the muscle...

If you are like me …a coffee snob if you will, I figured we’d talk about our love for this tasty beverage and its origin along with all the different way you can brew it. First things first..where did coffee come from? Where did it begin? If you already know the answer…dope..if not then check this out! Coffee actually has a ton of different tales of how it is originated but a BIG one is the story of Kaldi, an Ethiopian herder. Sources say “Kaldi discovered coffee after he noticed that after eating the berries from a certain tree, his goats became so energetic that they did not want to sleep at night. Kaldi reported his findings to the abbot of the local monastery, who made a drink with the berries and found that it kept him alert...

Member of the Month – APRIL 2018 Here at UpReach we love ALL of our members.  Each member brings something new, different, and awesome to this community.  We are so grateful for each and every one of our members and look forward to spotlighting one each month. Aaron Kiefer is this month’s member of the month!  We sat down with Aaron and asked him a few questions about his Crossfit journey. What led you to try out Crossfit? My hair dresser!  She would talk to me about “training” and I just didn’t know what she meant by “training” for Crossfit, so I finally asked her about it.  She would tell me how much fun it was and that I had to watch the Crossfit Games.  She asked me to go several times before I gave in and went.  She trained with a trainer at his house.  They did Crossfit style...
